NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. – In their first tournament of the spring season, Seattle U men's golf struggled with remarkably wet conditions on Monday and Tuesday at the UC Irvine Invitational. CSU Fullerton took top team honors, while the Redhawks finished sixth out of 10 programs, with a 37-over 901 after three rounds on the par-72 course.

Freshman Jack Rahon (76-69-81) led the way for the Redhawks, ending the competition in 24th place out of 59 competitors. Sophomore Gabe Spach was close behind at a tie for 29th place as he stayed consistent through all three rounds, posting scores of 76, 75 and 78. Coming in third for Seattle U, freshman Nathan Cogswell (72-85-73) posted stellar first and third rounds of even-par and one-over. Juniors Greg Gionfriddo (85-69-78) and Zack Overstreet (81-75-79) rounded out the five-man squad.

"I was proud of the way that the team bounced back in the second round," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet.

The Redhawks hope to improve in their next tournament, the University of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (Feb. 22-24). The three-day event will begin in just over a week in Palm Desert, Calif.
